Your environment & what you eat

Ever noticed how on the reality TV lifestyle shows one of the first things the ‘expert’ does is empty the cupboards of crap foods?

This is a good tip and to make it work you need to ensure that you are replacing them with ‘proper foods’ and make other changes to support a healthy lifestyle.

Try these tips

  • Replace high fat foods with low fat alternatives
  • Minimise cooking oils and always use vegetable based oils such as olive or canola
  • Provide fruit in abundance and within easy reach or displayed out in the open in a bowl
  • If you must have fizzy drinks, go for soda or mineral water
  • Hide or completely remove treats from the cupboards
  • Eat meals with the family and not in front of the TV, this can lead to overeating
  • Try not to shop on an empty stomach
  • Take left over’s to work for lunch eg. veggie stir fry, pasta with a tomato-based sauce etc.

Humans like many other animals are creatures of habit. You need to work toward making proper foods the default choice in your house.
